UPPER PROVIDENCE TOWNSHIP, PA — A significant multi-vehicle collision involving seven vehicles occurred on Route 422, causing extensive delays and road closures on Wednesday. The incident took place near mile marker 183.8, just west of the Route 29 ramp, during the morning rush at around 10:30 a.m. This area is known for its heavy traffic.
The crash involved three commercial vehicles, including large trucks, and four passenger vehicles. The specifics of what caused the accident are still being investigated by Troop K of the Pennsylvania State Police and the Upper Providence Police.
This accident has reignited concerns among local drivers about the persistent congestion along the Route 422 corridor. Recent weeks have seen multiple accidents from Pottstown to King of Prussia, exacerbating traffic issues.
The collision affected the westbound lanes, completely halting westbound traffic and scattering debris and damaged vehicles over a half-mile stretch on the roadway and median.
Friendship Ambulance responded to the scene, transporting several individuals to nearby hospitals with various injuries, although no life-threatening injuries were reported.
The incident also led to the closure of the westbound entrance ramps from Route 29, with traffic being rerouted through the Route 29 exit. Drivers experienced significant delays, especially those on Egypt Road and Route 422, as they were redirected away from the scene.
Numerous emergency services, including the PA State Police, Friendship Ambulance, Upper Providence Police, UPT Fire & Emergency Services, the Royersford Fire Department, and Upper Providence Township Public Works, were involved in the response efforts.
Route 422 was cleared and reopened to all traffic by 2:45 p.m.
Multi Car Accidents: A Statewide Impact
