BURLINGTON COUNTY, N.J. — A pair of related crashes on the New Jersey Turnpike sent shockwaves through Burlington County on Sunday afternoon, injuring nearly 50 people and causing major traffic delays.
The initial crash occurred around 1 p.m. in the northbound lanes between Route 206 and I-95 in Bordentown. It involved two buses, an SUV, and a sedan. Moments later, a second crash occurred in the traffic backup caused by the first. In total, 48 people sustained injuries. Witnesses say several kind strangers stepped in to assist the injured before emergency responders arrived. Two northbound lanes were shut down for several hours while crews cleared the wreckage. All lanes have since reopened.
Why Chain-Reaction Accidents Are So Dangerous in New Jersey
Chain-reaction accidents—multi-vehicle crashes triggered by a single event—pose a unique threat on New Jersey’s busy highways. With dense traffic, high speeds, and limited visibility, a sudden stop or collision can lead to a cascade of impacts in seconds. These accidents often result in serious injuries, extended road closures, and complex legal questions around liability.
New Jersey’s Turnpike and major interstates are especially vulnerable to such crashes due to their heavy commercial and commuter traffic. Even a minor mistake can spiral into a dangerous situation involving dozens of vehicles. That’s why maintaining safe following distances and staying alert in congested areas is critical.
Attorney Marina Kats: “Don’t Face a Chain-Reaction Accident Alone”
According to Attorney Marina Kats of Kats Jamison and Associates, victims of chain-reaction accidents should seek legal counsel immediately. “These aren’t simple accidents,” she explains. “You may be dealing with multiple drivers, insurance companies, and unclear fault. Without an experienced legal advocate, victims often end up undercompensated.”
Kats and her team specialize in complex car accident cases and are known for thorough investigations, strong advocacy, and compassionate client care. “We help clients recover damages for medical bills, lost income, and emotional distress,” she says. “Our goal is to take the burden off your shoulders so you can focus on healing.”
